What's it like as a place to live? Keele has an amazing vibe that is unique to anywhere else. It has one of the biggest campuses in Europe and you truly feel an amazing community vibe. Most of the resources you need are found on campus and it has such a great and all-inclusive social buzz that you feel from the minute you get here.
How's the student accommodation? Accommodation here is quite varied. It ranges from your standard student room to brand new ensuites in flats with over 70% of our student population living on campus. One of the brilliant things we have here at Keele is that third year students are guaranteed on-campus accommodation as well as the normal first years, which is a major plus. Keele also offers family flats to students with children, and a health centre and dentists is also located on campus.
What's the student population like? We have one of the most diverse populations here at Keele from students coming from far away as New Zealand, Burma, China and so on. We are located in the Midlands, at the heart of the country which means that we get students from absolutely every corner within the UK. There truly is a sense of belonging here at Keele which is sometimes hard to find in other places.
How do students and locals get on? Keele Village is found on the outskirts of Keele and we have a few events that take place there organised by some of our societies. They are very successful events that the local village love to part-take in. A unique feature of Keele is that we have members of staff living on campus too. This might sound a little odd but it actually works quite well and once again builds up a strong community feel.
What's it like as a place to study? Keele is a fantastic place to study. We are one of very few universities that offers dual honour degrees in most of courses which allows students to gain qualifications in two subjects. This not only provides our students with multi-discipline learning techniques but is a unique selling point with potential future employers. We are 11th in the graduate prospects table and have some of the most amazing departments in the country.
What are the teaching staff like? They are extremely helpful. Not only are students able to approach them during the day or via email whenever they want but there is also an office hours system where you can drop in and talk about any problems or queries you may have.
What are student societies like? At Keele we have 60 - yes, that's 60 societies! These range from rock societies, dance sport, law societies to our Athletic Union which has over a 1000 members. And if you don't like any of the above you can set up your own really easily!
What's a typical night out? Here is where the Students' Union shines! Our best nights out are at the SU. We have a wide range of events such as arranging for amazing acts to come in and play on gig nights. This includes Taoi Cruz and Less than Jake at fantastic prices. We also host many other events that are applicable to a wide range of students both alcoholic and none alcoholic. However your typical night out would start at one of our many Halls bars, found at each of the halls of residence, to socialise with a group of friends. It would then follow with a brilliant night out at the Union where you can boogie on down! We have won 'best bar' two years in a row and have 4 main bars with a shots bar and a bottle bar. We also have a cocktail bar which doubles up as a coffee bar during the day.
How can you get home safely? Keele University Students' Union runs a safety bus service which is completely free of charge. This is available to all Keele students and will take you home whether you live on campus or not. It is run by our security staff and so is incredibly safe. We have two minibuses that provide this service and it's even available to pick students up if they are out in the local area. The Students' Union also has a free direct line to one of the local cab firms.
