A small college of London University, specialising in philosophy and theology. Being small, there is a strong communal atmosphere and the eclectic mix of ages, cultures and (usually rather strong) opinions makes for common room interaction unlike any other. Students' union (HSU) works hard to promote a more active social life within the college, and is an excellent way for all students to make sure their viewpoint gets across. It runs 3 JCRs (one loud, one smoky, and one painted pink), with hot drinks (tea, coffee, chocolate) & biscuits (all fair-trade) and use of a microwave, toaster, fridge, pool table, table football, widescreen TV/DVD player and music system - all for a small payment each term. Shop offers popular course texts at reduced prices, together with branded college clothing etc. Small number of students means that class sizes small and one-on-one tutorials with specialised teaching staff. First years usually get a place in inter-collegiate halls (a women's hall is on campus); thereafter moving into shared flats and houses, or into various chaplaincies. What isn't available in college is surely on offer at ULU or one of the other London University colleges - all open to Heythrop students - especially via the reciprocal agreement with neighbouring Imperial.
Housing: Inter-collegiate halls of residence then private housing (look in university accommodation lists, or Loot). Drink: ULU cheap, with promos; Greyhound, local and well patronised. Eats: Meal very reasonable in College; also ULU or anything on High Street Ken. Nightlife: ULU; also HSU trips to West End, theatres, cinemas (often with discounts). Locals: Posh, but good for a laugh. Sports: ULU facilities good; college too small for anything above 5-a-side. Travel: Very accessible (next to High St Ken tube) but London notoriously expensive (travel cards are available for discounts). Financial help: Discretionary college hardship fund. Jobs: Reasonable amount of work if you're not fussy; college library, local stores etc. Best feature: Fun union. And worst: Weigh-and-pay salad (expensive).
