Site:Two safe, modern campuses at Pontypridd (Treforest and Glyntaff); new campus in Cardiff city centre (creative industries).
How to get there:Cardiff campus: Mainline rail to Cardiff (from London, Manchester, Swansea); National Express coaches to Cardiff Bus Station; by road via M4; close to Cardiff International Airport. Pontypridd campuses: From Cardiff, frequent trains on Valley Line to Treforest station (next to campus) or bus from bus station to Treforest; 20 minute drive from Cardiff and M4, follow A470 Merthyr Tydfil and take exit at signpost A473/Llantrisant. 

Student services & facilities

Student advice & services:Health centre, student money service with advisers and loan officers, counselling & advisory service, childcare crèche, advice shops, chaplaincy, international student support service, disability & dyslexia service, resident tutor team.
Amenities:New SU building (Treforest campus), with bars, nightclub, cafés, restaurants, shop, travel centre, launderette, welfare advice etc. 
Sporting facilities:9 football and rugby pitches (including 3 floodlit), floodlit all-weather pitch and cricket pitch, large indoor sports hall, 4 squash courts, 6 badminton courts, 60-station conditioning room, free weights room, sauna, 9m climbing wall, 20m traversing wall, bouldering room, accessible to wheelchair users.
Accommodation:First year students guaranteed accommodation (university or private) if they apply by the deadline. 1206 self-catering places (75+% ensuite); at Treforest, rents £84−£110 per week (including utilities, internet and insurance), contracts of 39 weeks; in Cardiff, all rooms ensuite at £103.50-£113.50 pw, 42-week contracts. Students live in privately-owned accommodation for 2+ years, average £55 pw (+ £8 pw utility bills).

Study opportunities & careers

Library & information services:Approx 250,000 volumes, 15,000 serial publications (including electronic), 720 study places. Information provision, £79 pa spent for each student (FTE). Specialist collections: Welsh writing in English. 24-hour access to e-journals, e-books and databases. Some 24/7 access to computing facilities and wireless networking widely available. IT staff support available for 12+ hours/weekday (8/weekend days). Induction sessions on library and information services for new students, plus support booklets.
Other learning resources:Education drop-in centre for extra tuition in maths, statistics, exam techniques, researching and writing assignments. Laptops and media equipment can be borrowed.
Study abroad:Many students can study abroad: active collaboration with many institutions in America and most countries in Europe.
Careers:Professional careers guidance and practical help for all students and graduates (96+% of graduates in employment or/and further study after 6 months). Good links with national and local employers; organises (paid) work experience; links to recruitment fairs.

Money

Living expenses budget:Minimum budget of £600 a month (excluding tuition fees) recommended by university. 
Term-time work:SU employment service helps students find work on both off and on campus (eg in SU).
Financial help:Bursary of £1500 in Year 1 (£1000 pa thereafter), open to students who live more than 45 miles away. Also various subject-specific scholarships (eg business, sport and Welsh language).Total available £1.85 million government funds to alleviate hardship.
University tuition fees:Students from Wales or the EU pay £3465 for first degree courses, other UK students pay £9000 pa. International students pay £9800 pa (£2400 in a placement year).

Living

What's it like as a place to live? Community feel to the Trefforest and Glyntaff campuses. The Students Union offers a letting agency facility so students get the best accommodation and support in the area. The Trefforest and Glyntaff campuses are scenic and semi-rural, with a local town nearby which has shops and markets. The Students Union is fantastic, new and modern with 800 capacity night club, two 200 capacity bars, social learning space, coffee shop, meeting rooms, hair dressers, job and letting shop, business centre and, shop and beauty shop and terrace. The atmosphere is positive and friendly.

How's the student accommodation? Halls are nice and clean, it has a homey feel and the halls are situated near the new Students Union (Trefforest campus) and the recreation centre. The University is in the process of building new modern and stylish halls of residence at the Trefforest campus. The halls in Cardiff are great with great facilities. Halls are comfortable and priced at a average rate.

What's the student population like? The student population is diverse, with a mix of international, UK based students, people from the community.

How do students and locals get on? The community atmosphere is good, and the community does joint activities with the University and the Union at different times of the year, the locals mix with the students.

Studying

What's it like as a place to study? The university is flexible, friendly and supportive. The University recently invested 30 million in the campuses, such as a new Union, new halls, new facilities on the Glyntaff campus, an aerospace facility (aeroplane on campus for engineers to work on) atrium students' Union. The university is keen on developing the student experience.

What are the teaching staff like? Interested in students, helpful and supportive.

Socialising

What are student societies like? Lots of different societies, sports and democratic structures within the Union.

What's a typical night out? Going to the Students Union, occasionally going to the local town. The best nights in the Union are Wednesday and Fridays. Gigglebox comedy night is great and for special genre nights Saturdays has varied music such as international students night, rock, Hed Kandi.

And how much does it cost? Most nights are under £3−4. Score on a Wednesday is free up until 8pm.

How can you get home safely? The halls are near the Union and the campus is brightly lit with security cameras dotted around (the cameras are linked to the security office which is near the Union).

Money

Is it an expensive place to live? No, the Union provides cheap pub/cafe style foods, and campus services provides reasonably-priced meals.

Average price of a pint? £2

And the price of a takeaway? £3−£4

What's the part-time work situation? The Union and university provides opportunities for couriering and student ambassadors, bar/shop shop work also the Union has a student voice rep scheme which provides a bursary at the end of the year.

Summary

What's the best feature about the place? The Union and the views.

And the worst? The rain.

And to sum it all up? Great University, good atmosphere and all about excellence and student experience.
