Student view

Living

What's it like as a place to live? Its very small, very friendly, very community based, very clean and green.

How's the student accommodation? Slightly expensive but nice places to live. Last house was slightly grotty but it did the job fine. Next house is newly re-furbished so is worth looking around the estate agents.

What's the student population like? Very friendly. A lot of Chichester is student populated and few are international. 90% are white British so a more diverse background would be great.

How do students and locals get on? The uni is very much SU-based so do not interact with the locals that much. However when going into town there is a good community atmosphere.

Studying

What's it like as a place to study? Mostly a sports-based university. I do a joint honours course and had to do a bit of co-operating on not doing two dissertations. Possibly more communication between separate courses is needed in the case.

What are the teaching staff like? Really great, a lot of support from them. Emails are almost replied to straight away and meeting with tutors are organised if needed quickly.

Socialising

What are student societies like? There is a wide range of student societies with a lot of people involved (for eg football, rugby, hockey, English, poetry, surfing). Great way for meeting new people.

What's a typical night out? SU bar. A lot of fancy dress nights. (I don't drink but I always have a great time)

And how much does it cost? About a tenner, depending on how much you drink.

How can you get home safely? We always walk back together (walkable distance).

Money

Is it an expensive place to live? Located on the South coast and very middle class, it is quite expensive.

Average price of a pint? At the SU £2.40; at the pub £3.50−£4.

And the price of a takeaway? £8.

What's the part-time work situation? Yes, many jobs are available and close by. SU bar work and SU shop are very accessible. Uni does not disapprove of part-time work.

Summary

What's the best feature about the place? The Cathedral is beautiful; and West Wittering beach.

And the worst? Bognor Regis

And to sum it all up? Very clean and quiet (everywhere shuts at midnight); very community based.

Isabel Ashdown (writer), Adam Dobson (ice hockey player), Jason Merrells (actor).
