What's it like as a place to live? Paris is a great place to live, as a capital city there's something for everyone – great architecture, nightlife, museums and art galleries.
How's the student accommodation? In first year you have a choice to live at "Estudines", which is the closest thing to student halls − it's a great opportunity to meet people in the first year although it is quite expensive. You can generally find central accommodation that's not too expensive, but there'll always be some sort of compromise.
What's the student population like? Because of its size, ULIP helps you create a strong sense of community; you get to know people from other years very well and everyone shares at least one interest in common – French!
How do students and locals get on? Parisians are known to be a little cold but you can find nice people too! If someone doesn't want to know you, they'll leave you alone, but you'll often find locals striking up conversations with you – they're not all that bad!
What's it like as a place to study? The university is small, but it has everything you need – library, computers, cinema etc. Also being in Paris means you can take advantage of all the exhibitions (most of which are free) and films that the city has to offer.
What are the teaching staff like? Good teachers with different interests. Most are very engaging with students
What are student societies like? There are about 15 societies, ranging from football to knitting, film to aerobics. Lots of people get involved in the societies and they seem to get better every year. At ULIP it is so easy to create a new society so if there isn't one that takes your fancy, you can always start a new one!
What's a typical night out? Go to a small bar and have a few drinks
And how much does it cost? It can cost anywhere from 10€ to 80€!
How can you get home safely? A taxi or last metro are the most sensible ways. Taxis here are some of the cheapest for a capital city!
Is it an expensive place to live? Yes, but if you budget and know the right places to go it is definitely affordable.
Average price of a pint? 4–6€
And the price of a takeaway? 10€
What's the part-time work situation? There are so many babysitting jobs that are well paid (8–15€ an hour) and bar work and internships aren't too hard to come by. Also minimum wage here is 8.70€ so you can earn quite well!
What's the best feature about the place? The location – you can be sitting in a lecture with a view of the Eiffel Tower!
And the worst? It's so hard to find cheddar cheese and Baked Beans.
And to sum it all up? ULIP offers you a student experience like no other − anyone who's interested should take this opportunity to live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
