UCAS applications
There is a clear timetable of deadlines that apply to your UCAS application. Here, as an example, are the key dates for applications made in 2011 for courses starting in 2012.
Mid-September 2011: You can send your completed application to UCAS.
15 October: Last date for your application to reach UCAS if you are applying for medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine/science, or for any course at Oxford or Cambridge university.
15 January 2012: Closing date for on-time UK/EU applications
Early May: You should have heard from all your choices by now.
Your own personal reply date: When you have heard from all your choices, you may have two or more offers. If so, you will have to decide which is your first and which your insurance offer, within a few days. Beware – this personal deadline for replying is important; your friends’ deadlines will be different.
End February-end June: Extra, when you can make more or different applications
30 June: Closing date for international applications (non-EU) and for late UK/EU applications. Apply after that date and you will go into Clearing.
August: Your exam results!
- If you have met the conditions of any offer, you’re in. You will usually receive confirmation via UCAS within ten working days; if asked to do so, you must reply to your university within 14 days.
- If you have not met the conditions of your offer, UCAS will automatically place you in Clearing.
- If you have exceeded your offer, you can register for Adjustment.
Mid-July −20 September 2012: Clearing: Ring round the universities and colleges; get help from your school or your local careers office. Look for vacancies on the UCAS website and in the national press.
September−October: Courses start.
CUKAS applications (for practice-based music courses)
There is a clear timetable of deadlines that apply to your CUKAS application. Here, as an example, are the key dates for applications made in 2011 for courses starting in 2012.
Early July 2011: You can send your completed application to CUKAS.
1 October: Closing date for on-time applications
Mid-October: Auditions start.
End January 2012:Final date for you to reply to any offers you received by early January.
1 February: You should contact conservatoires to check for vacancies if you want to apply now.
End March/July: Final dates for you to reply to any offers you received by early March/July.
August: Your exam results! If you have met the conditions of any offer, you’re in.
Late August: Final date for you to reply to offers received by early August.
31 August 2012: Final date for late applications to reach CUKAS.
September−October: Courses start.
