Last year millions of lucky graduates who took out a student loan after 1998 enjoyed interest-free student loans. Today, owing to the way these rates are calculated, these graduates will start paying interest on their student loans again - 1.5% from 1st September. If the student loan was taken out before 1998 the interest rate is 4.4%.
